electric suv redefinition ahead

Peugeot’s latest electrification masterpiece, the E-408, emerges as a compelling addition to the burgeoning electric C-segment. This fastback crossover blends saloon, SUV, and crossover styling cues into a distinctive 4.69-meter package that strikes an impressive silhouette on the road. The robust aesthetic, complete with wheel arch panelling and a slightly elevated stance, differentiates it from conventional competitors.

Under its aerodynamically optimized body lies a potent powertrain delivering 157 kW (210 hp) and 345 Nm of torque in Sport mode. The French-assembled synchronous motor with permanent magnets offers driver-selectable power profiles, with Normal mode providing 140 kW and ECO mode restricting output to 125 kW for maximum efficiency. Development of the electric version followed the seven-year journey of the combustion model with the EMP2 platform serving as its foundation. Drivers can enjoy exceptional comfort thanks to the AGR-certified seats that provide optimal ergonomic support during long journeys. I’ve seen few vehicles in this segment offering such flexibility between performance and range optimization.

The E-408’s tri-mode electric powertrain seamlessly adapts between raw performance and efficiency with unmatched segment versatility.

Speaking of range, the E-408’s 58.2 kWh NMC battery delivers an impressive 453 km WLTP range. This efficiency stems from the vehicle’s 15.2 kWh/100 km consumption rate, aided by a standard heat pump that greatly improves thermal management. With a lifespan of approximately 200,000 miles, the battery should serve owners reliably for many years of driving. DC fast charging capabilities reach 120 kW, guaranteeing reasonable charging times at public stations.

The interior showcases Peugeot’s signature i-Cockpit® design philosophy, featuring a compact steering wheel positioned below a 10-inch digital cluster. The i-Connect® Advanced infotainment system incorporates intelligent route planning that accounts for elevation, traffic, and charging infrastructure. Over-the-air updates guarantee the system remains current without dealer visits.

Practicality hasn’t been sacrificed for style, with 471 liters of boot capacity expandable to 1,545 liters. The 2.79-meter wheelbase provides adequate passenger space, while the 11.18-meter turning radius supports urban maneuverability. Three levels of regenerative braking, controlled via steering wheel paddles, allow drivers to tailor the one-pedal driving experience to their preferences.

The E-408 represents Peugeot’s most sophisticated interpretation of electric mobility yet, blending distinctive design, thoughtful technology integration, and practical usability into a package that challenges category conventions.
